graphical research

Our topic deals with the economic and political situation in Slovenia that contributed in great expands to the fact that in the last few years the number of young intellectuals leaving the country rises enormously. There are still no good researches being done on that topic, so we cannot realate on scientific facts but we do follow this topic everyday in media and especially in everyday life.

We did interviews with representatives of brain drain, young educated people who have moved abroad in the last few years. These interviews were a great source of inspiration for our movie. To dive even deeper and to get some more inspiration, I decided to add some graphic responses to this situation in Slovenia.

Here are two examples of graffiti art connected to the topic (you can find quite some on the streets of Ljubljana). The first one says »Brain drain – you don't deserve me.« The second one says »An ocean for the unemployed«.

There was a series of images of the topic of migration published in Mladina magazine, done by different graphic artists.
You can find them here.
Some of them are interesting for our topic too, they need a bit of an explanation:

  • 4th image (text on a brown ground) - Translation: WHILE THE GRAPHIC DESIGNER WAS CREATING THIS AD, HE GOT A JOB OFFER IN LOndon. The script writer is thinking about moving to Poland, therefor he…
  • 6th image (text on a green ground) - »I feel sLOVEnia« is a touristic slogan of Slovenia. The creators of this image changed it to »I feel sloVENia« because VEN means »out« or »go out«, so all  together is something like »I feel like going out (of Slovenia)«.

Another interesting graphic action was produced by poster company Tam-tam! and a Youth Council of Slovenia, and done by Publicis Agency (Gregor Čeferin, Toni Tomašek, Miha Bevc, Drago Mlakar)
You can find it here.
Three different posters were spread around Ljubljana and some other Slovenian towns. There is a question on each of them: Who would create Slovenian history if the best would leave? And then there are images of three different famous Slovenian artists and some of their works are transformed as if they would live abroad.
